The Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM) holds its annual conference September 14–18, where mayors and councillors from across the province vote on the resolutions that shape BC’s priorities for the year ahead.
One of them is NR32: Pursuing a Class-Action Lawsuit Against Fossil Fuel Companies.
If it passes, the Province of BC will be formally required to respond – to tell municipalities, First Nations, and all of us whether it will “take a leadership role in pursuing a class-action lawsuit against fossil fuel companies… in pursuing a shared recovery of damages to civic infrastructure in BC caused by the harmful impacts of fossil fuel companies’ products.”
You already know why this matters.
Wildfires, floods, heat domes, crumbling roads and failing infrastructure – communities are paying the bill for a crisis the fossil fuel industry knew it was causing. We want a safe, livable, and affordable future. And we want the corporations that profited from the damage to help pay to fix it.
Your mayor and councillors are the ones who cast this vote. Send them an email before September 11 so it reaches them well ahead of the conference. It takes two minutes, and the more personal you make it, the more it counts.
